Meet Mitz Accesories!

What made you start a business? 
I began my business as most entrepreneurs tend to – on accident. My daughter was going through a phase where she was obsessed with dinosaurs and would only wear dresses. I made her our dinosaur dress as a fun side project when I couldn’t find a dinosaur dress for her in stores. The response to the dress was incredible and unlike anything I could have ever imagined. We were living in NYC at the time and I would get stopped no less than 10x every single time we went outside and she was wearing the dress. I realized I had made something that represented a real gap in the marketplace when someone crossed four lanes of traffic to ask me where I got my daughters dress from. The dinosaur dress started these great conversations with parents about what was missing in the current children’s clothing market and that’s where we got the idea for our Kickstarter.
WHAT DOES BEING A SMALL SHOP MEAN TO YOU?
Being a shop small means that I’m able to control aspects of the business they way I want them to be run. It’s important to me to pay the people working with us a fair living wage and to make sure we’re focusing on our mission and values of providing children with clothing free from gender stereotypes that gives them more options of colors and themes that align with their interests and likes.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PRODUCT YOU SELL?

Our must love dinosaur design, of course!

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD?

A few additional important features of our clothing:

We make unisex/gender neutral designs that can be work by a boy or a girl, making it easier to pass down among siblings.
One of the best compliments we’ve gotten from parents is that the conversation around children changes when they’re wearing our clothing. Instead of hearing comments about physical appearance (i.e., you’re so cute/pretty – which are all very well intentioned, of course) parents report their children being asked questions about their interests. For example, ‘Do you want to be a paleontologist when you grow up?’
We use high-quality jersey knit fabric that’s made to last.
We’re filling a gap in the children’s clothing market and our designs are unique because they’re unlike anything you can find in mainstream retailers.
We have a higher price point because ethical manufacturing is critically important to us.
